In all honesty, the experience has been both challenging and a lot of fun. It’s like putting together a huge puzzle in that there are several key pieces that need to fit in order for this to work.
Unlike other training programs, the “Voice Over Club” will offer E-learning modules about the ins and outs of becoming a voice actor. Additionally, we will include expert interviews, blogs, articles and studio tours. For up-to-date information on what will be the ultimate educational tool for aspiring voice actors, sign up at www.VoiceOverClub.com.
I welcome your ideas, so let’s start with this question; What would you like to see on a voice over training site that would truly inspire you in your path to becoming a professional voice talent?

Love that you are doing this online based & is something that we at VOplanet feel is very important in the industry today. As an agent one of the biggest issues I personally see is that talent can have a great voice & even be super experienced & credited… BUT – their auditions sound like they are reading/announcery etc. Not much acting or emotion behind them. I would love for talent to be instilled with the capability & fearlessness to bring their personalities into the read. Jean Barrett is a talent who has this down to a T – when you listen to her auditions – you get a sense of her personality, you feel like she is talking to you, as if it weren’t even a TV r radio commercial but a conversation between us. I would love a class that focuses on just this. My two cents. Lots of ideas but this is the one that stands out at the top of the list as an agent anyhow.
This is fabulous! Although I’ve been doing this for a LONG time I often get asked “how do you get started”, “How much does it cost”, “what kind of equipment should I use” and “how do you get your jobs”? Perhaps you could address some of those questions on your site. I also agree with Michelle
Summers’ comment of bringing personalities into a read. AND maybe something on copy interpretation.
Just my thoughts – Thanks!
Looks like you got the ball rolling before voices.com when they suggested a VO mentoring program via Vox Daily.
But there are existing forums and blogs that already offer the same/similar content, so it will be interesting to see what makes yours unique once it’s launched.
And I do appreciate your efforts to introduce such a project.
One thing that should be explained further is what “exclusive membership” means…whenever that pops up in website promotion, it usually means a fee will be required to join.
In the meantime, I subscribed to stay updated. I might be inclined to feature this on my blog once it officially launches.
A fantastic idea Terry! As you know, having a great voice doesn’t get you anywhere in this business. And it is a business. You might sound like James Earl Jones, but if you do not have the basic business skills to set up shop, it’s going to be an uphill struggle to make a living using your vocal chords. That’s why I would recommend developing e-Learning modules about:
1. Discovering your “Brand”, “Niche” or Unique Selling Point. Without a clearly defined product, you don’t have something to sell.
2. Business 101: basic skills for self-starters.
-logistics: setting up your office
-effectively working from home
-creating a business plan
-raising funds: getting grants, loans
-budgeting & bookkeeping
-CRM management
-Legal aspects: contracts, LLC/sole proprietorship
-Union vs Non-Union
-Insurance
3. Basic equipment to get started
-hardware
-software
-creating the ideal recording environment
4. Promotion: drumming up business
-Marketing
-Advertising
-Networking
5.Selling
-the art of auditioning
-negotiating
-after sales
6. Recording & editing
7. Honing your craft
-finding a coach
-acting 101
-breathing, diction
-mic techniques
-vocal health
-literature: essential reading
It’s by no means a complete, list, but I hope this helps!

I want to second everything Paul above just said.
To make your site different, focius on the building the biz.
To expend on those thoughts, most sites just say
“you do this this and this, but don’t expain how to do this.
How do you cpontact radio station reps in small town america.
re-enactments would help new VO get over fears of getting out there.
most sites talk about how to get agents,
what about info on step by step guides on getting reps in smaller markets.
video on how to contact production companies.
info marketing to medical vo jobs.
video interviews with people on the inside that hire and how they what VO to appoach.
talk with Vo artists how they started step by step
Great site and I do look forward to future additions. I am just getting started and have learned a lot from listening in on your (Terry) directed VO sessions. The one thing I have found is that if I can see video of the voice actor, I pick up even more. Being able to see the hand gestures and face expressions used to help form the voice output.. make sense?
Good job and I will be in touch for sure regarding training.
