Most beginners say their biggest question about doing voice overs is, “How Do I Get Started?”.
I have tried to give you some basic steps in previous lessons:
Once you have taken these steps, then the next thing you will need to do is, get some exposure! Get your voice out there so that people can hear you and see what you have to offer.
Having a website is important, but if no one ever finds your website, none of this will matter.
So how do you get traffic (visitors) to your website? Not only do you want traffic to your website, but you also want BUYERS who are willing to pay money for your service!
One way is to use Google Adwords to buy your visitors as “clicks”. Google’s Adword Ads are the text ads that you see on the right hand side of Google whenever do a search for a voice over related phrase.
A lot of voice-artists are advertising this way – which drives the costs way up – making it expensive – especially if you don’t have any experience using Adwords. Adwords is however, one of the ways that I get visitors to my website…
Another method you might want to try, is posting ads for your service on Craigslist. This is a FREE option that may help just the right person, to find you online.
Craigslist doesn’t want people to post the same ads to multiple categories, so you might want to use the same ad (for multiple cities) but change it up a bit for each new ad – and make sure to place the ad in the SERVICES category – something like the “skilled trade services” sub-category.
Lastly – consider using eBAY to market yourself online – yes eBAY!
Do a search on eBAY for “Voice Talent” – and you will see that there are a few others who are already advertising there…
Check out what they are doing and - try it yourself – but stay away from just using the words “VOICE OVER” just by themselves because that phase is also used for people who are selling “Voice Over IP” (these are internet-phones).
Even if you DON’T have a website yet – it can’t hurt to try advertising yourself this way.

Make sure that the words “voice over”, “voice talent”, or “voice artist” is in your title so people know what you are offering…
There is no guarantee that you will get gigs this way – but if you seriously want to make a living as a voice over artist – you need to be as serious about your marketing as you are your voice!
