daCapo Voice Talent of the Year Awards, 2006
A big part of any success we have as a company is the talent that we regularly work with and hire. If we didn’t have access to a wide variety of skilled and unique voices, we could not do the work that we do! In order to recognize the contributions that our voice talents make to us, our clients, and the audio production industry (and to have a really good excuse to eat cake at 2:00 in the afternoon), we initiated the FIRST ANNUAL DACAPO PRODUCTIONS VOICE TALENT AWARDS!!!!
(Clint addresses the black-tie crowd at the awards ceremony)
The winners (talent of the year, and runner-up) were chosen based upon a complicated formula involving total number of projects voiced, total revenue earned, and some linear programming. Our runner up was… Monique LaCoste who has the added caché of being able to do excellent voice work in French and English (note the beautiful trophies these folks were presented with. You don’t find things like this at just any pawnshop, let me tell you!).
Our overall winner was…
Gordon Tanner
Congratulations everyone! It has been great having the opportunity to work with you over the years!
re: The voices behind the machine
Hi Florian, yes I agree. And I would add that a sentence recorded by a good voice talent for a particular dialog state in a particular application is likely to be more contextually appropriate in terms of prosody, etc. – and hence more acceptable to callers – than the same sentence generated by a TTS system.

Actually, I dropped everything I had in my hand and crashed into the floor when I saw it. The name I’m speaking of is John DiMaggio. For those of you who do not know who that is, he is the voice talent behind Kimahri and Wakka from Final Fantasy X. It’s been bugging me for quite some time now so I have to know; Is the same person? (Oh, and please spare me the snide remarks about how late I am to notice it. I’m well aware of that)
I believe this is the same person.
New Year…Additional Opportunities
HOUSEKEEPING:
I want to thank and welcome aboard PowerTVMedia. I just contracted to provide voiceover services for their “High Octane” program…right up my alley! As well, XM Satellite Radio has renewed my contract through 2007! Just last week I finished recording a promo for a well known NASCAR driver and team…again, right up my alley.
YOUR BUSINESS:
If you are thinking, “we need some kind of change” or perhaps “we need to re-think our marketing strategy”, then I can’t encourage you enough to consider the professional voice talent. No matter what your application, there are numerous talent out there that can turn your ideas into marketing reality.
Here are a few folks I strongly recommend:
-Long form narration, audio books, training manuals etc.: Mr. Bob Souer (link lower right)
-Network promos, commercials etc., Mr. Leif Anders (link lower right)
-Teenage girl, cartoon voices etc., Ms. Kara Edwards (link lower right)
-My demos can be heard on my site as well (link lower right)
Now that you have settled in to the New Year a bit, evaluate where professional talent can work for you!
