Voice Acting
I have had many offers of help for the voices in the project. I need 2, one for the Mayor and one for the narration. I don’t know whether or not to have just one voice covering both parts, so at the moment I am getting people to record both parts. Today we recorded an actor who was simply perfect for both roles in the National Galleries recording studio. As a result I might just use this recording for both parts. I have a very tight production schedule laid out and it simply doesn’t offer too much leeway in going to and from the studio.

Final Trailer for Azerothian Espionage from YouTube :: Tag // machinima
Original release date: March 22nd, 2007 Personal rating: 3.5 / 5 This is a trailer for a new movie Cameron Gadsby [who also helped produce it] and I did over the last couple days. He took care of some of the writing, like the plot outline and characters, etc. He needed the video relatively quickly so I finished it in 5 days with some very needed breaks [dialogue, voice overs, filming, and editing]. The movie should show up on here in several days, it’s about 16 minutes in length. With the completion of this, I’m going to start working on the new Huntology series. You can expect the first episode in a month or two [maybe sooner if I get lucky]. Voice Acting

If the accent doesn’t work out, I’ve got a few suggestions. My voice leaves home to go walkabout on a regular basis. First, silence. Don’t use the temp voice. Use a note pad. It’s like writing love notes to your voice. Voices can’t resist that for long. Second, lots of water and less caffiene. Your voice might be suffering from sleep deprivation and be off somewhere trying to nap. Or it might have a hangover. Third, nice, pure air. Last of all, make sure you don’t have any sort of infection. Voices do not like cooties and will vacate as soon as cooties move in next door. I know, it’s a terribly kind of bigotry, but what can you do?

What I’m watching.
I felt it would be interesting to post up some of the crap I’m watching. Perhaps not.

First, American Drama Heroes. It’s like a comic book in the form of a drama. I can’t resist it. It is one of the very, very few popular TV dramas that I would actually watch from week to week. Right now it’s nearing the end of a season so it’s getting rather intense.

Sexy Voice and Robo, interestingly enough, another drama. This one’s a Japanese drama. It’s about a middle school girl who can imitate and recognize voices really well and a giant robot geek. The two of them become spies kinda by mistake. It’s funny and interesting.

Well, this probably comes as no surprise…. Gundam Seed. I’m a Gundam fan at heart. I can’t resist the allure of giant robots, and Seed is actually, very much to my surprise, well written, action packed and not what I expected. I recommend it to anyone…..who love giant robots or Gundams.

These are all the new shows I’m getting into at this time. As for old contenders, I watch Penn & Teller’s Bullshit. Additionally I’m getting back into GARO. Granted, it’s over and no longer airing, I love re watching the episodes. Unfortunately, I can’t get anyone to watch it with me other than Aaron. And he’s in Portland now. No one’s willing to watch it because it’s a Tokusatsu program. But it’s not normal tokusatsu. GARO is very dark and full of lots of details, aesthetically pleasing design, and some of the best fight scenes in existence. Seriously, Kodama’s fight against Kouga is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.

Any of you interested in checking out some of these shows can watch Heroes on NBC on Mondays. As for Gundam Seed, check it out on DVD, but only if you can find it unedited. The Cartoon Network version isn’t so good. Sexy Voice and Robo as well as GARO are not aired or licensed for US distribution. Those interested in seeing them can download them (with subtitles) from Tv-Nihon. Or of course, anyone can see any of those programs by going through me.

Naruto Stays Japanese On Xbox 360

I love Ubisoft now. They also did a great job with Senko no Ronde (keeping the japanese voices with english on top).

Yolanda King Dies

Yolanda King Dies
With sadness we learn of Yolanda King’s death today. An actor, activist, speaker, and daughter of the Civil Rights Movement, Ms. King was a voice of hope and a symbol of empowerment. I once had the privilege of hearing her speak when I was in college. She was a powerful and dynamic speaker and she had a commanding presence. An inheritor of her parents’ nobility and an accomplished leader in her own right, Yolanda King will be missed. “Let light perpetual shine upon her.”

How to get started in Voiceovers
Well, I am still exploring this question myself. I found a very interesting perspective on this question here at Dave Houston’s Blog. Eventually, when I am rich and famous, I will compose an amazingly pithy and interesting answer to this question myself. In the meantime, I will share the resources I find with you so we can learn together!

Fifteen minutes on agni with voice

shout Yolanda King DiesWell, I downloaded the voice-enabled First Look viewer, and went out to one of the PG welcome areas to have a listen. Results were … mixed, to say the least.

A cluster of ten people were standing around talking. It only took a few minutes to identify six distinct issues. We could call them the big six, but that’s already taken, right?

Firstly, the Active Speakers window isn’t much help in a group. At any moment four or five people were lit up as speaking, but with several seconds delay between someone lighting up as ‘speaking’ and the voice arriving, it doesn’t really help much in identifying who’s voice you are hearing at any moment.

Second, someone is occasionally screaming or howling in the background. I’ve no idea who.

Third, every few words is fardling or spoony or abfold or snurble (Confused? See here). Who is swearing like a sailor? A few people, by the voices, but I can’t tell who. Never mind this is a PG sim. If you use SL for work, you’ll probably want to stay away from public gathering places if anyone in the office can hear your audio.

Fourth, crosstalk. Miss a word or two because someone is talking over the top of them, and you’ve got no idea what they said. People are going “What?” “What did you say?” “Can you repeat that?”

Fifth, I can hear everyone’s tv, radio, cd-player in the background. That doesn’t make it any easier.

Sixth, unlike all other sounds, voice doesn’t go away when you minimize SL.

Issues. There are definitely issues. Mostly, of course, they’re social issues, not technological ones.

Widening the base, amplifying the citizen voice
The primary season saw the beginning of a new kind of politics in Philadelphia, one that must be carefully nurtured if it is to grow. One facet of this new kind of politics is evident in the number and variety of mayoral and city council candidate forums held in virtually every neighborhood across the city and sponsored by a wide range of groups. Great Expectations sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Inquirer was joined by the Next Great City sponsored by Philadelphia Future and the Next Mayor project sponsored by The Daily News, WHYY and the Committee of 70. Some others included two forums on education sponsored by Cross County Collaborative sponsored two forums on education and the 2007 Future Leaders Mayoral Forum sponsored by the Philadelphia Youth Network and the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition. In the midst of all this candidate talk, it is easy to miss something what is perhaps a more important kind of talk: citizen talk. Not citizens asking questions of the candidates, but citizens talking with each other about the issues and about the campaigns. The Great Expectations Project is the prime example of this brand of citizen talk. With more than 50 citizen forums in neighborhoods across the city (and two in the suburbs), it was one of the few projects in which citizens talking to citizens came before, and formed the basis of, citizen questions to the candidates. Why is this important? Why does this signal a change in politics in this great city? Think of politics in Philadelphia (or in any democracy) as a triangle ? a triangle in which each side represents a different kind of political actor ? one side representing elected and appointed officials, another representing professional stakeholders (such as developers or well funded special interest groups) and the base representing the citizen voice. In Philadelphia ?politics as usual? is like an isosceles triangle with two very long sides, but a short or narrow base. That is, the voice of citizens is often dwarfed by the voices of officials and professional stakeholders. And, if what we?ve heard in Great Expectation citizen-driven forums is accurate, citizens are tired of getting the short end. What they want, and what Great Expectations has helped create, is for this isosceles triangle to grow into an equilateral triangle ? a triangle in which citizens and the citizen voice is equal in strength to that of officials and professional stakeholders. – Harris Sokoloff

“Real” Beauty
Dove soap has a campaign now for “Real Beauty”. It appears to be a self-esteem issue they are tackling where they emphasize that the womanly ideal presented in advertising campaigns isn’t attainable and that women should be comfortable with their own real beauty.

To punctuate their message, they have created a short, time-lapse film that details a model’s transformation from regular girl to super model billboard beauty. It’s pretty interesting, especially after the photo shoot is done and they move into Photoshop territory.

It seems that some folks are up in arms over a corporation as large as Dove developing such a campaign. They feel that it is hypocritical for them to “dismiss” the very same advertising techniques they themselves have used in the past. Most feel it is just a corporate ploy of “Look, see what those other bad companies do to make you buy their product? You can trust us.”

Personally, I see nothing wrong with it. Any voice, be it large or small, that can champion the normalization of body image to the public today deserves to he heard.

Some advice about unsolicited advice
A few weeks ago, Drew told me that he found himself critiquing the voice-over actors on local radio commercials. He said he could recognize voice talent who need more training because they haven’t learned how to sound conversational in their reads. Among other things, he astutely detected that amateurs invariably let their voices trail off at the ends of sentences. That same day, I called a major entertainment venue here in Atlanta to learn information about an upcoming event. I was rather shocked to hear a voice message in which the events and ticket prices were read in a choppy, uneven manner by someone with an accent. While some local commercials are produced by people with limited budgets, this complex has revenues in the millions each year. Its operations department unquestionably could afford to hire professional voice talent but has not. In both cases, a professional voice-over artist like me could be tempted to offer her services to these businesses to fix their problems. However, both the people producing the commercials and those at the entertainment venue don’t think that they have a problem. My efforts therefore would fall in the category of unsolicited advice and most likely anger the people that I most wanted to impress. I learned this lesson the hard way. As I was beginning my voice-over career, I wrote an e-mail to a local car dealer who runs a lot of radio ads. With my infinite wisdom, I explained that the dealer’s ads about Jenny in the office making a Bundt cake for all of the salesmen was offensive because it presented a very sexist and condescending attitude toward women. Mind you, I sent this message in the late 90s or early in this decade. The ad WAS sexist, but as a new voice talent who had no connection to this advertiser, it wasn’t my place to point out that fact. Naturally, I happily identified myself as a voice-over talent and offered to assist the dealer with future commercials. I have auditioned for that dealer’s spots on numerous occasions but have never booked one. I have listened to my auditions against the ads that ran on the air. My vocal qualities and copy interpretation are eerily similar in many cases. Since I’m a positive person, I believe that maybe the producers knew the talent selected for the ads or perhaps never heard my auditions. I have to be honest, though, and acknowledge that an equally likely scenario is that my unsolicited advice was considered criticism and destroyed my chances of booking work with that advertiser.

What’s Your Inner Voice Telling You?
Do we have an inner voice? And if so, is that God speaking to us or our conscience? Or maybe both? Or does that depend on whether you?re a believer or an atheist? I mean, that voice telling you to go ahead and do something wrong can?t really be your conscience, can it? So is that the Devil? So, now we have two inner voices? The good one and the bad one? Now, I?m confused.

Dammit.

Actually I have the Nextup newsreader also with the paul voice from Neospeech. I think it’s nott the same. I thought it was familiar, but I put the same text in both their website and the nextup textloud program that I have. The processing was different. it seems like the Bluegrind one was more accurate, specially with the dates and time and the website addresses and some language differences.
The voice is also slightly different to me when I listen to them side by side.

Just as a sidenote, I have also tried the AT&T voices, and after a while they all sound the same, but I think this bluegrnd one is differnt than the nextup one or the neospeech one.

Apparently….
I am judgmental and have some sort of problem with keeping commitments..ergh I sound like a boy. And yet I hate it when I need to be girly…so I MUST be some sort of androgynous homosexual…… seriously, no stereotypes please.

And I am planning to rid myself of my commitment problem…with Nanowrimo…which is 4-5 months away…ah.

Adjusting my biological clock is harder than I thought…I feel really groggy and awful…

War sucks. But some people insist on “making their point”..I know what having pride and arrogance is like but even I’m willing to put that aside to prevent the death of millions..
I find this amusing even though yes, it IS creepy..just thank god they haven’t developed live video feeds yet..think of all the parking fines people will receive.
I don’t really know what to think of this..immersing in politics is tiring and troublesome..but they did have some valid points..just got to see how it goes..
I only you guys figured this out earlier..not blaming you.. just saying IF ONLY..argh.

So I just got a brief call from the founder of the DDR Club at University of Missouri, Kansas City. The reason he called is because he forgot the answer to the question of XotW (DWI EX of the Week). After that, he asked the whole club to say hi to me.

I just felt so great when I heard so many different voices saying “Hi, Terrence” on the background. It was loud that I needed to take my phone away from my ear for a few inches. And when I responded to them, I felt my voice was so weak compared to them.

Giovanni da Palestrina
With works that are often regarded as the perfect models of Renaissance polyphony, Italian composer Giovanni da Palestrina had his first major appointment as the organist of San Agapito, Palestrina. After the election of Pope Julius III, he was appointed maestro di cappella of the Cappella Giulia in Rome, where he wrote his first works. Well-regarded in Rome’s musical society, he shuffled through posts at two of Rome’s greatest churches, St. John Lateran (1555-’60) and San Maria Maggiore (1561-’66). During the 1560s and 1570s Palestrina’s fame and influence was bolstered by the wide distribution of his published works. His most famous mass, Missa Papae Marcelli, is said to have been composed to satisfy the requirements for musical cogency and textual intelligibility during the Counter-Reformation. After marrying his second wife, a wealthy fur merchant’s widow, he enjoyed his most productive years at the end of his life free from financial concern. He died in Rome in 1594. A prolific composer of masses, motets and sundry sacred works, he assimilated and refined his predecessors’ polyphonic techniques to produce a “seamless” texture based on balanced voices and a sense of nobility and restraint that made an unquestionable influence on Renaissance music. – Nate Cavalieri

COOL+McCOOL+DVD COOL McCANN Leslie and I had breakfast late yesterday morning at Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City. After breakfast, we ran into the great character actor and voice artist, CHUCK McCANN. Chuck was there with one of his dogs, Judy. We had actually stopped to admire his dog when I recognized Chuck. We talked for a few minutes and I mentioned that I still needed to pick up the newly-released COOL McCOOL DVD set from BCI Eclipse. As you know, Chuck did many voices for the 1960s cartoon series. Just then, Chuck asked us to keep an eye on his dog. He went to his car and returned with a brand-new COOL McCOOL DVD set for Leslie and I. What a great guy! Chuck graciously signed the DVD set for us. Chuck is featured in audio commentaries and interviews with Wally Wingert. Wally produced the DVD set and is also a talented voice artist (Family Guy). Chuck McCann has a really nice website and you can take a look at it here. He’s still adding things, but it looks great so far! If you haven’t already, be sure to pick up COOL McCOOL on DVD! Thanks, again, Chuck…Leslie and I hope to see you again at Sportsmen’s Lodge!

the greatest show on earth
So I just got done watching “Inside the Actors Studio: The Simpsons.”

The Simpsons have long been a favorite television show of mine, it has always been a staple in my home and as long as it’s around it will continue to be that way. It was nice to see the faces behind the voices.

I would venture to say that The Simpsons is without a doubt the greatest show on earth.

That is why on the evening of July 27th you will find me at the theater watching their big screen adventure:

After watching the actors studio I have this unquenchable desire to be a voice actor. I mean I’ve always thought about it, but it’s like lit a fire underneath my butt…I don’t know I guess I think it’ll be a lot of fun to go to work and be someone else everyday. Not have to be fake, or not neccesarily be fake, but go along with the crowd like I had to be at my last job, just so I can keep my job, but get to become an alter-ego that gets to had fun on a regular basis.

Anyway I think that would be cool.

In other news I started my new job on the 15th and it kicks butt. I’m in sales which I’ve always loved and the family atmosphere there is amazing. I honestly see myself there for quite some time.

Now I just have to move closer, cause commuting to Ybor City everyday is exhausting, I’m looking though and it looks like I might be able to find a lease by room type apartment near USF that is all-inclusive which is really what I need for my budget.

This new job has me so relaxed, like my blood pressure is at an all time low, I look forward to working, i’m not stressed, I have fun, and I’m slowly getting healthier. Now I Just have to work on my weight gain from the stress eating that took place in my last job.

Well thats all for now. I’m on the internet all day now, so perhaps more updates will come in the future. Of course I’ve promised that in the past and it’s always fell through but we’ll see what happens.

Re: Great game, but what happened to the music/sound and story? They leave a bit to be desired…
The story was fine for what it was, at least Link didn’t just collect 3 thingies get the sword and awaken a few more dudes liek he did in the past few games.

The music did it for me, I thought it was fine

Voice overs would have been a nice touch, but as long as Link doesn’t talk.

Organic Food in Social Media
What is the talk in social media when it comes to ?organic food??

Table 1 shows how often a set of words typically used in connection with Organic food were used. (All data relate to 90 days prior to March 18th 2007).
According to Table 1 the word ?healthy? had a share-of-voice of 25% compared with the other 4 words analysed.

Buzz 90 728433 Re: Great game, but what happened to the music/sound and story? They leave a bit to be desired...Table 2 shows the Share-of-Impact for the same words.

Notice how the share of ?healthy?, ?sustainable? and ?nutritious? drops while ?environment? grows.
The difference between Share-of-Voice and Share-of-Impact is that the latter factors in the topical influence of each voice. This provides a better model of the effects of the conversation.
One conclusion that can be drawn from comparing tables 1 and 2 is that the online media that uses words such as ?healthy?, ?sustainable? and ?nutritious? in the context of Organic food tend to be those with less influence on the topic.
Perhaps this is because there is little actual evidence to suggest that Organic food is healthier, more nutritious and more sustainable than non-organic food.
Impact 90 797423 Re: Great game, but what happened to the music/sound and story? They leave a bit to be desired...

Table 3 and 4 slices the data from Table 1 and to into months. Table 3 shows the raw voices whereas Table 4 shows the impact.

From looking at the raw buzz (Table 3) we could easily come to the conclusion that ?environment? is on the decline and ?nutritious? is on the rise.

However, when looking at Table 4 we can see that ?environment? is pretty stable and the growth of ?nutritious? is nowhere near what Table 3 suggests.

What am I doing here? Where am I?

Oh, if only I could move my hands and legs! Voices, I can hear voices, strange and familiar. I know that voice. Whose’s it?

Dark, it is dark here. If only I could open my eyes!

Dammit.

the greatest show on earth

What The Hell Has Been Going On Since I’ve Been Gone?!

Let’s see…

Don Imus acted an anus, we lost more youths in the struggle, more minds got taken by corrupted vibes, blood and tears were shed, the oceans got toxic and sea life took a hit, it got hot as hell – real fast, and politics started sounding more and more like a hissing and rattling competition.  Meanwhile the dollar and the American reputation lost more weight and is starting to look much like our movie starlet’s receding waistlines, and did I mention my grand kids may never meet a polar bear or a penguin due to global warming?

But Chuck… somewhere a baby laughed, a family reunited, a father forgave a son, an ingenious idea was born… someone had the time to curl under a light bulb with a good book, and somewhere… a solution was seeded inside the hearts of future leaders…  and that’s alright…

Voices.com is Well Worth the Money

I am a voice artist that works solely in Cartoons.

I joined Voices.com at the beginning of the year and only read for one job, a job that 330 other people read for… and I was hired.

Now, I had applied for this job through Craigslist too, but it was my Voices.com audition the creator heard.

It’s the lead in a series.

THANK YOU VOICES.COM!!
