Need Voice Over Talent

Need Voice Over Talent
Looking for a few voice over people for a small project we are working on. Its a very short project so the actual recording won’t take too long. I’d prefer people that are in the south or southwest suburbs to avoid long travel for any pick up lines that may come up last minute, as its sort of a project that changes a little as we go along and we are always adding some new scenes, but we’re looking to wrap it soon. Its a fun project and I can tell you more about it if you email me. Looking for tw…

OLDER MALE VOICE OVER

OLDER MALE VOICE OVER
Local DVD producer is looking for a voice-over artist for a forty-five minute travel DVD about San Francisco. The voice over person we’re looking for is more a “character” than a straight narrator, so we’re looking for an older “been there/done that” kind of voice that one could imagine had been hanging around Haight Ashbury in the Summer of Love, if you know what I mean. The actor we’re looking for has a good sense of irony and is able to bring out the humor in the lines without being to obstru…

What are Watermarks and Why are Talent Using them in Custom Demos?

What are Watermarks and Why are Talent Using them in Custom Demos?

Greetings, Have you ever received a demo of your script from a talent only to find that there are beeps or sound effects included in the recording? These added audio clips are called “watermarks”. Many voice talent add these short sound bites with the intention of protecting their work while providing their sample at higher quality. Variations on Custom Demo Protection include:
  • Slight script alterations
  • Names changed or mispronounced on purpose
  • Music beds and sound effects
  • Communicating to you directly in the recording as well as reading the script
  • And rarely, submitting lower quality audio files

Although these may seem annoying, even distracting, they are in place for a good reason. While the Internet provides many opportunities for securing work, it has also unfortunately been used as a means of stealing creative products, including voice-over demos. This is particularly true of custom demos of shorter scripts such as telephone voicemail boxes and commercials. People who steal work are only a small margin of Internet users, but over the years, voice talent and other freelance creative professionals have learned the hard way, often by hearing their audition pieces used commercially without being paid for their services. sun block lady 730156 What are Watermarks and Why are Talent Using them in Custom Demos? Now keep in mind that the use of demo protection techniques does not reflect how talent feel about you as a person or about your job, it’s merely a professional decision. This is a very important distinction. What can you do about this? Don’t judge a talent by their demo recording alone if they took precautions. Take time to consider their voice type, interpretation, quote and proposal. Think of it more like them wearing a hard hat at a construction site or applying sun block while outdoors in the summer. If you need to present the audio submitted by talent to other decision makers, these precautions may make or break whether the talent qualifies to be presented as an option. If this is the case, contact the talent and share your situation with them and ask for another sample without alterations. I hope I have shed some light on why talent may incorporate these watermarks or script alterations into customized versions of your scripts. Does this give you a different perspective? How do you feel about watermarks or script alterations in custom demos of your script? Leave a comment! Best regards, Stephanie

JARU HERMANO WAS SUPERB!!! yeheessss. i must admit that i have never been the biggest fan of TA productions. but this one, i swear to goddess athena i loooved it!!! jaru hermano did an excellent performance. mejo murang-mura ka nga lang. haha but nevertheless, it was wonderful. i swear i am not saying this just because were friends or whatev, haha but really jaru was great. the play was not dragging and heavy. it was very effective in making the audience feel every scene. i was scared during the creepy parts especially when voice overs would play and like the voice would sound big and low. i laughed during the funny parts and was awww-ing during the emo or touching parts. i liked it. oh!! i loved rin the stage design. it was snakes and ladders. parang the ladders were there together with the wires and stuff to create the “school” feel. haha im not sure. well thats how it looked to me.

Whoa whoa…TP+OoT Link voice actor

Whoa whoa…TP+OoT Link voice actor

I was watching the credits to TP when I looked at voice overs and the guy who does OoT Link’s voice is in TP…Soooo…Is OoT Link’s voice actor the same as TP Link’s voice actor…or is OoT Link’s voice actor the voice of some other character(s) in TP!?! D= HELP, I don’t want this question to go unanswered!

On Zelda: TP voice overs…
I’ve heard a lot of people complain that Zelda: TP should have voice overs. I don’t know that I disagree but does anyone else think that perhaps it’s because the game is great looking which = lots of space on the game disc. Voice overs also require lots of space on the disc and let’s face it…TP is great looking but essentially a Gamecube game which means it’s limited to what? 1.8GB? That’s not a lot of space to work with.

That being said, the fact that TP is a Cube game doesn’t upset me in the least. It just gives me greater hope for what the Wii can accomplish for the next Zelda game. I mean as a cube game this game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It’s pretty darn good as a Wii game too!

Thanking Voice Talent after Auditions

Thanking Voice Talent after Auditions

Greetings, After you’ve selected a voice talent to work with, do you thank the other voice talents who applied for your voice-over job? thank you note 778468 Thanking Voice Talent after AuditionsSending a quick email to voice talent who were not selected for your project is a considerate gesture that helps build relationships and a qualified network of skilled professionals. It also lets the talent know that you reviewed their submission and appreciated their efforts. Here’s a sample template that you can work from for thanking voice talents: Dear (Voice Talent Name), Thank you for responding to my job posting “Name of Project”. Although we selected another professional for this particular job, our team is interested in your voice and will keep you in mind for future projects. Thank you again for your audition. Sincerely, (Your name and company name) A simple yet grateful message will go a long way and build a good rapport with voice talent for future endeavors. Best wishes, Stephanie

Voice Talent

Hey, I was watching the ending credits of Futurama and I happened to see a name that caught my attention.  Actually, I dropped everything I had in my hand and crashed into the floor when I saw it.  The name I’m speaking of is John DiMaggio.  For those of you who do not know who that is, he is the voice talent behind Kimahri and Wakka from Final Fantasy X.  It’s been bugging me for quite some time now so I have to know; Is the same person? (Oh, and please spare me the snide remarks about how late I am to notice it.  I’m well aware of that)

Movie Trailer Voice for Podcasts, Promos, Intros, Outros etc.
Right now, one of the hottest voiceover styles is the Movie Trailer Voice, especially in light of the Geico commercial! There are tons of applications where a voice like this can really take your podcast, promo or commercial to the next level. Interested in taking your Podcast to the next level…visit my web site www.VoiceOverforyou.com, today!

With nearly 20 years in and around the entertainment business in Los Angeles, I have seen “styles” come and go. As a professional voice-over talent, I lend my voice to podcasts, radio & TV commercials, promos, narration, on-hold messaging, movie trailers and the like.

Podcasts are quickly turning in to a HUGE avenue for bringing awareness to your business…getting your product, whatever that might be, out there and into the ears of interested potential clients. You may have noticed that many Podcasts sound a bit cheap or unprofessional…yours does not need to; hire a professional voice talent. Many of them can produce a professional intro and outro as well as do the voicing for you! These are usually done at a much lower rate than one would charge for a national TV or radio spot. If you are going to take the time to produce a Podcast, consider how a professional voice talent can add to the value of your creation. If your “name” is on it, make it the best it can be!

I’ll provide some links for you to some very good professional talent.

Thanks for taking time to visit and, again, visit my web site for all my latest voiceover demos. Feel free to email me for a quote on your next voice talent need.

Have a great week!

Brian in Charlotte

Ebay . Sister Wendy…
Here’s a fun little spec commercial I directed recently. This one was born on the back of Ebay.Museum (see 07.18.06 posting). Originally I was planning on peppering the Ebay.Museum spot with all sorts of quotes about art. This was meant to offset the ridiculousness of the bad art hanging in the museum. After cutting the spot I realized the museum commercial was stronger without the V.O. and abandoned the idea of voice overs.

However, when I was researching for quotes I came across this great little clip of the BBC’s Sister Wendy. Press “play” below to see my commercial…

She is in fact talking about Hans Holbein’s painting of King Henry the VII, but when I came across this segment I couldn’t resist. I thought this commercial was pretty funny, as did everyone else who saw it (a friend of mine pretty much choked to death on his beer while watching it)

So far I’ve taken a bit of flack from some industry insiders telling me that it’s not really a “director’s” piece. However I think it can show what you can do with a little creativity and a limited budget.

Gothic 3
What a let down this game is. After all the hype and press about how this game was going to be better than Oblivion, it falls not short, but flat on its face. The game is extremely clunky, with a very slow quick load and normal load. It’s so slow in fact that I believe quick load and normal load are doing the exact same thing. The controls aren’t very good, the fighting is rather bad, the voice overs are awful, what part of this game was supposedly better than Oblivion?

Re: Great game, but what happened to the music/sound and story? They leave a bit to be desired…
The story was fine for what it was, at least Link didn’t just collect 3 thingies get the sword and awaken a few more dudes liek he did in the past few games.

The music did it for me, I thought it was fine

Voice overs would have been a nice touch, but as long as Link doesn’t talk.

Looking for voice over actors

Looking for voice over actors
We are holding some auditions this Sunday looking for some voice over people for a short animated project. We are not looking for narration VO or spokespeople, but rather comedy voices for a handful of wacky characters. A sense of humor is a must. Its a short project so recording won’t take long after we pick who works for what part, maybe a few hours at most? And there is pay for the main cast. I’d prefer people on the south side, but if you don’t mind traveling thats fine. If you have your own…
